Data Insight

Two names sit on all 22 songs: Farruko himself and Frank Miami, whose legal name Franklin Jovani Martínez turns up in the Calma credits on Wikipedia. Sharo Towers writes on 18 of the 22 and produces 14, so the record is the work of a small in-house team rather than a rotating cast of hired writers. The rooms are crowded anyway, because the guests write their own verses and the reggae borrowings pull in older names, with Peter Tosh credited on La Cartera and Tego Calderón on Delincuente. Delincuente carries ten writers. Nadie is the outlier at three, and it was the first single.

Farruko turned away from the trap of TrapXFicante and built this one on reggae and dancehall, taking the title from a word he says means warrior in Rasta speech. It runs 22 tracks, with Sharo Towers and Dímelo Flow handling most of the beats and a guest list that takes in Bad Bunny, Anuel AA, J Balvin, Pedro Capó, Alicia Keys, Manuel Turizo, Don Omar and Konshens. The album reached number 2 on Top Latin Albums and number 80 on the Billboard 200, and charted at 96 in France. Both remixes of Pedro Capó's "Calma" sit at the end of the running order.

Frequently Asked Questions Gangalee

What does Gangalee mean?
Farruko has said it means warrior in Rasta speech, which fits an album he built on reggae and dancehall instead of the trap he had been making.
Did Farruko write the songs on Gangalee?
He takes a writing credit on all 22 tracks, but never alone. Frank Miami is on all 22 as well and Sharo Towers on 18, and the guests write their own parts, so most songs carry five or more names.
How did Gangalee chart?
It reached number 2 on Top Latin Albums and number 2 on Latin Rhythm Albums, number 80 on the Billboard 200 and number 96 in France. It finished number 10 on the Top Latin Albums year-end list for 2019 and was still on that year-end list in 2021.
Why are there two versions of "Calma" on the album?
The original is a Pedro Capó song. Farruko joined the remix released in October 2018, then a second remix adding Alicia Keys came out on 19 April 2019, a week before the album. Both were put on Gangalee, at tracks 6 and 22.
Is Gangalee certified?
The RIAA has certified it 6x Platinum in the Latin field, and ZPAV in Poland gave it a Gold award. Neither body publishes a plain units-sold count for it.
Data note: Per-track writer and producer credits come from Genius. MusicBrainz holds no artist or work relationships for any recording on this release, and the Discogs entry lists only featured artists, so 20 of the 22 tracks rest on that one source and the album is left unverified. The two exceptions are the Calma remixes, whose writers and producers the Wikipedia article on Calma confirms independently. Several credited names are stage handles with no published legal name: Karloff, Symon Dice, Magnifico TBM, Dynell, O'Neill, Bory, Maahez, Prida, EZ Made Da Beat, Exel The Future, Echo The Lab, Diesel, Jvyboy, Keko Musik, DJ Urba, Rome LMN, Maffio and Sky Rompiendo. Those stay in lyricists and are left out of composers rather than guessed. Track 3 is printed as "Boriquen Bella" by Wikipedia and Discogs but as "Borinquen Bella" by MusicBrainz and Genius, and the Wikipedia spelling is used here. English Wikipedia calls this his sixth studio album, Spanish Wikipedia his seventh.
