Ex'Act marks the first crack in the pure label-author model: Chanyeol co-wrote the lyrics for 'Heaven,' the only member writing credit on the record. Everything else stays with SM's writers and outside teams like LDN Noise, Kenzie and Dem Jointz, so the album sits a half-step toward member authorship while still resting on professional songwriting.
Ex'Act is the third studio album by EXO, released in June 2016 by SM Entertainment with twin lead singles 'Monster' and 'Lucky One.' The album marked the first time members contributed to the writing, with Chanyeol co-writing lyrics for the track 'Heaven,' though the bulk of the record stayed in the hands of professional writers and production teams such as LDN Noise, Kenzie and Dem Jointz. Issued in Korean and Chinese editions, it sold strongly and spawned the repackage Lotto. With Tao now absent, the group performed as a unified nine, and 'Monster' became one of EXO's most acclaimed title tracks.
