Love to Love You Baby is the second studio album by Donna Summer and her first release in the United States, arriving on Oasis Records on August 27, 1975, with Casablanca Records handling US distribution. Side one is given over entirely to the nearly seventeen-minute title track, a moaning, synthesizer-driven groove that Casablanca president Neil Bogart asked Giorgio Moroder to stretch out after hearing an early three-minute demo. Summer, Moroder, and Pete Bellotte wrote the title track together at Musicland Studios in Munich, while the five songs on side two, plainer soul and disco pieces, came from Moroder and Bellotte alone. The title single reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the first number one on the new Hot Dance Club Play chart, going gold in the US within months. The album itself went gold in the US, UK, and Canada, and its extended dance mix helped set the template for the 12-inch disco single. The title track's suggestive vocal performance led some radio programmers to ban it and the BBC to initially refuse to promote it, controversy that only widened the record's audience.
