Exodus is DMX's posthumous final album, recorded in the months before his death in April 2021 and shaped by executive producer Swizz Beatz. DMX wrote his own raps as always, and the record surrounds them with a who's-who of guests, from Jay-Z and Nas to Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, and Bono. "Bath Salts," his reunion with Jay-Z and Nas, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song, a fitting late recognition for his writing.
DMX's eighth and final studio album, released May 28, 2021, through Def Jam Recordings, Ruff Ryders Entertainment, and Bloodline Records. DMX died on April 9, 2021, seven weeks before the album's release, after suffering a heart attack at his home. Executive produced by Swizz Beatz, the album is a reunion record gathering many of the defining voices from hip-hop's late-1990s and 2000s era: Jay-Z, Nas, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, The LOX, Griselda, and U2's Bono all appear across the thirteen tracks. "Bath Salts" reunites DMX with Jay-Z and Nas, while "Take Control" pairs him with Snoop Dogg and is co-produced by Mr. Porter (Denaun Porter of D12). Usher and Brian King Joseph close the album on "Letter to My Son." Kanye West produces and appears on the closing prayer track. DMX wrote all his own lyrics on the album.
