...And Then There Was X is DMX's best-selling album, and he again wrote every rap on it himself while Swizz Beatz drove the production. "Party Up (Up in Here)" became his biggest crossover hit, with DMX on lyrics and Swizz Beatz on the beat. The Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album recognized a record that was fully his on the page, built over his producers' music.
DMX's third studio album, released December 21, 1999, through Def Jam Recordings and Ruff Ryders Entertainment. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and was certified five times platinum by the RIAA. "Party Up (Up in Here)," produced by Swizz Beatz, became his biggest crossover single and one of the defining hip-hop anthems of 2000. "What These Bitches Want" featuring Sisqo was a top-twenty pop hit. The album features "Angel" with Regina Belle, demonstrating a different melodic range alongside his aggressive street material. DMX wrote all of his own lyrics throughout; Dame Grease, Swizz Beatz, and PK again share the bulk of production duties.
