Songs from the Sparkle Lounge is the ninth studio album by Def Leppard, released in April 2008 and named for the makeshift studio they set up backstage while touring. Recorded quickly and loosely, it returns to a tighter, more guitar-driven rock sound after the pop experiments of X. The writing is notably individual: most songs are credited to a single band member, with Phil Collen, Rick Savage, Joe Elliott and Vivian Campbell each writing tracks alone. The country-tinged single 'Nine Lives' features Tim McGraw. Self-produced by the band, the album was a modest commercial performer but marked a confident return to their hard rock roots.
