Adrenalize carries the weight of Steve Clark's death: he shares writing credits on the songs begun before he died, while the rest were finished by the surviving members and producer Robert John 'Mutt' Lange. The credits still follow the band-plus-Lange pattern, with Phil Collen, Joe Elliott, Rick Savage and Lange most frequent. It is the last Def Leppard album to carry Clark's name in its songwriting.
Adrenalize is the fifth studio album by Def Leppard, released in March 1992 and the first made after the death of guitarist Steve Clark, who died in January 1991. Clark still shares writing credits on several songs begun before his death, but the album was completed as a four-piece, with Phil Collen handling all guitars. Robert John 'Mutt' Lange stepped back to executive producer while co-writing much of the material, and Mike Shipley and the band produced. The sound continued the polished arena rock of Hysteria, led by the hit 'Let's Get Rocked.' The album topped charts in the US and UK, a commercial success carried out under the shadow of Clark's loss.
