Euphoria returns Def Leppard to their layered hard rock and briefly brings back Robert John 'Mutt' Lange as a co-writer on two tracks. The credits otherwise spread across Phil Collen, Joe Elliott, Vivian Campbell and Rick Savage, with Collen the steady center. After the lean, individual writing of Slang, this album re-embraces the collaborative songwriting that built the band's biggest records.
Euphoria is the seventh studio album by Def Leppard, released in June 1999 and a conscious return to the polished hard rock sound the band had stepped away from on Slang. The aim was to recapture the spirit of Hysteria, and Robert John 'Mutt' Lange even returned to co-write two songs, 'Promises' and 'All Night,' though he did not produce. Pete Woodroffe and the band handled production. The writing spread widely across Phil Collen, Joe Elliott, Vivian Campbell and Rick Savage, with Collen the most frequent contributor. 'Promises' became a rock radio hit. Euphoria restored some commercial momentum and reaffirmed the classic Def Leppard formula for a new decade.
