By the Numbers
Scooter Ward wrote every lyric and every note on Cold's debut, making it a sole-author document from start to finish. Ross Robinson, known for producing Korn and Limp Bizkit, brought a raw, heavyweight production approach. The only outside contributor is Krystal Atkins, who sang uncredited female vocals on 'Strip Her Down.'
The band were still called Grundig when they started recording in 1997, until the German stereo company of the same name came after them for 300,000 dollars over it. Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit suggested the replacement and Scooter Ward took it. Ross Robinson produced the record at Indigo Ranch in Malibu, and Ward wrote all eleven songs by himself, the only Cold album with no other writer anywhere on it. Flip and A&M had it slated for November 1997 and then pushed it to January 1998, which is why the copyright line reads a year earlier than the release. 'Go Away' and 'Give' were the singles.
