Graffiti arrived under the most difficult commercial circumstances of Chris Brown's career, released during the fallout from his 2009 criminal case. The album's experimental genre mix, blending R&B with synth-pop, rock, and Euro-disco, was out of step with contemporary R&B radio trends. It debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200 with 102,000 first-week copies and sold 341,000 units in the US, achieving RIAA Gold certification. Despite the commercial underperformance, Graffiti received two Grammy nominations at the 53rd Grammy Awards in 2011: Best Contemporary R&B Album and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "Take My Time" featuring Tank.
