Dancing Queen is the most clear-cut interpreter album Cher ever made: every track is an ABBA song written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, often with Stig Anderson. Cher has no writing credit anywhere on it, and that is the point. The whole record is her voice applied to a catalog of other people's hits, the interpreter's role taken to its logical end.
Dancing Queen is the twenty-sixth solo studio album by Cher, released in 2018 and made up entirely of ABBA covers. Inspired by her role in the film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, it was produced mainly by Mark Taylor, with Benny Andersson producing 'Fernando.' Every song is an ABBA original written by Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, and in most cases Stig Anderson, so Cher writes none of it; the album is a pure interpreter's project. It was a commercial success, reaching the top three in the US and several other countries.
