Data Insight

Cher's 1987 self-titled album is a producer-and-songwriter showcase with Cher as the voice. Michael Bolton and Desmond Child wrote and produced most of it, with Diane Warren and members of Bon Jovi filling out the credits. Cher holds no writing credit anywhere on the record, the clearest possible example of her interpreter's role: a full rock album sung by her and written entirely by others.

Cher is the eighteenth solo studio album by Cher, released in 1987 and the start of her rock comeback on Geffen Records. A team of producers led by Michael Bolton and Desmond Child built a polished pop-rock sound around her voice, with a guest cast that included Bon Jovi members Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, and David Bryan. Every song came from outside writers, from Bolton and Child to Diane Warren, and the album returned Cher to the charts with the top-ten single 'I Found Someone.' It opened the most commercially successful rock phase of her career.
