Data Insight

High Hopes was Bruce Springsteen's first studio album built entirely from covers, outtakes, and re-recordings rather than new material written for one project. Springsteen wrote the bulk of the songs, including "American Skin (41 Shots)," "The Wall," and "Harry's Place," most of them outtakes from earlier sessions stretching back to The Rising and Wrecking Ball. Three tracks are covers: the title song by Tim Scott McConnell of the Havalinas, "Just Like Fire Would" by Australian punk band The Saints, and a reimagined "Dream Baby Dream" by Suicide. Guitarist Tom Morello, who filled in for Steven Van Zandt on the Australian leg of the Wrecking Ball Tour, played a central role, suggesting songs and adding lead guitar across the record, including a new take on "The Ghost of Tom Joad."

High Hopes is Bruce Springsteen's eighteenth studio album, released on January 14, 2014. Co-produced by Ron Aniello, Brendan O'Brien, and Springsteen, it is a collection of reworked outtakes, live staples, and three covers. The album features guitarist Tom Morello as a guest performer throughout. Covers include 'High Hopes' (Tim Scott McConnell), 'Just Like Fire Would' (Chris Bailey), and 'Dream Baby Dream' (Martin Rev & Alan Vega). 'The Wall' was co-developed with Joe Grushecky.
