By the Numbers
Keep the Faith was Bon Jovi's fifth studio album and a deliberate reinvention, trading the arena gloss of their 1980s run for a heavier, more grown-up rock sound. Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora wrote the bulk of the record, bringing back longtime collaborator Desmond Child on the title track and other cuts while producer Bob Rock pushed the band toward a denser, harder edge. The power ballad "Bed of Roses" became the album's biggest hit and the song most listeners still associate with this era of the band. Tracks like the nearly ten-minute "Dry County" showed how far the group was willing to stretch beyond its radio formula.
First album with Bob Rock producing. Jon Bon Jovi's solo writes increase significantly; he alone writes 7 of the 13 tracks. Desmond Child co-writes three tracks; Richie Sambora co-writes the remaining six. David Bryan appears as a co-writer on track 4.
