By the Numbers
Bon Jovi's second album was made quickly under pressure to follow up their debut, and the band shared most of the writing, pairing Jon Bon Jovi with bandmates David Bryan, Richie Sambora, and Tico Torres rather than leaning on outside songwriters. Lance Quinn produced the sessions in Philadelphia and New York. The ballad "Only Lonely" was the lead single and the band's biggest hit to that point, while "In and Out of Love" followed it onto the Billboard Hot 100. The record went platinum in the United States but is often viewed as a transitional step before the breakthrough of Slippery When Wet.
Second album produced by Lance Quinn. Jon Bon Jovi solo writes dominate the first half; the back half features more collaborative writing with Sambora, David Bryan, and (on the closing track) drummer Tico Torres alongside Bill Grabowski.
