Millennium is the second studio album by Backstreet Boys, released in May 1999 on Jive Records and produced by Max Martin, Kristian Lundin, and others. It is one of the best-selling albums in music history, certified 13-times platinum in the United States, and a commercial achievement that places it alongside Thriller, Back in Black, and the Eagles' Greatest Hits as one of the best-selling albums of all time. The band performed all vocals; Max Martin wrote the majority of the material including 'I Want It That Way,' 'Larger Than Life,' 'Don't Want You Back,' and 'Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely.' 'I Want It That Way' reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 but was the most played pop song in the world in 1999, spending months at the top of charts across Europe and Asia; 'Larger Than Life' reached the top five in multiple countries. Millennium sold 37 million copies worldwide, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 1.13 million first-week sales (one of the five largest opening weeks in US history at the time) and sustained chart presence for over two years.
