By the Numbers
Away from the Sun is another fully band-written record, and it produced two of 3 Doors Down's biggest singles in the ballad "Here Without You" and the driving "When I'm Gone," both Hot 100 top five. Produced by Rick Parashar, it sold around eight million copies worldwide and confirmed the band as a radio-rock mainstay. The songwriting stays in-house with the core lineup credited throughout.
The second 3 Doors Down album, released November 12, 2002 on Universal and recorded that summer with Rick Parashar producing and engineering at London Bridge Studio in Seattle. The band is credited as the writer of every song except 'Dangerous Game' and 'Sarah Yellin',' which go to Brad Arnold, Matt Roberts and Todd Harrell alone. 'When I'm Gone' and 'Here Without You' reached numbers four and five on the Billboard Hot 100. The album has sold about eight million copies worldwide, more than four million of them in the United States, and the RIAA certified it four times platinum in 2006.
