By the Numbers
Jahseh Onfroy is a credited writer on all 25 tracks, and he was dead for every decision that turned them into an album. The sessions run back to 2014, and the record around his vocals was assembled after June 2018 by people who could no longer ask him what he wanted. John Cunningham produced or co-produced 14 tracks and also played guitar, bass, drums, piano and synthesizer on them; Robert Soukiasyan mixed 11 and Koen Heldens mixed 13. A few guest verses predate the murder, since "Voss" already existed as Sauce Walka's song with him on it and "Bad Vibes Forever" had surfaced on a Trippie Redd mixtape, but most of the pairings were arranged rather than found, and those are the estate's calls. The credits are accurate and still misleading. They name who wrote the words without saying that the choices about what those words became belonged to other people.
Bad Vibes Forever came out on December 6, 2019, about eighteen months after XXXTentacion was murdered. His estate built it from sessions recorded between 2014 and 2019 and stacked 25 tracks with 21 guests, among them Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Tory Lanez, Vybz Kartel, Joey Badass and blink-182. John Cunningham produced or co-produced 14 of the tracks and played guitar, bass, drums, piano and synthesizer across the record. It debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 and split critics, who mostly heard thin material dressed up.
