Tyler Joseph wrote all of Blurryface himself and co-produced every track, working with a rotating team of producers including Ricky Reed, Mike Elizondo, Mike Crossey, and Tim Anderson. The album turned Joseph's writing into a commercial breakthrough, with 'Stressed Out' reaching number 2 and 'Ride' number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Neal Avron mixed the record and Chris Gehringer mastered it at Sterling Sound, framing songwriting that remained entirely Joseph's despite the larger production roster.
Twenty One Pilots' breakthrough album, released May 19, 2015, and their first to debut at number one on the Billboard 200. The album's concept centers on the character 'Blurryface,' representing Tyler Joseph's personal insecurities and self-doubt. All 14 tracks were written solely by Tyler Joseph. Primary producer Ricky Reed handled 8 tracks; Mike Elizondo produced 4; Mike Crossey produced 'The Judge'; Tim Anderson produced 'Message Man.' Tyler Joseph served as co-producer on every track. 'Stressed Out' and 'Ride' became top-five pop hits. The album made Twenty One Pilots the first act to have every track from a single album certified Gold or Platinum simultaneously.
