The debut sets the pattern that holds across the catalog: Dolores O'Riordan wrote every lyric, while the music splits between her partnership with Noel Hogan and a handful of songs credited to her alone, including 'Waltzing Back,' 'I Will Always,' and 'How.' There are no outside writers on the standard album, marking it as fully self-authored from the start.
Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? is the debut studio album by The Cranberries, released in March 1993 on Island Records. After an early demo period under producer Pearse Gilmore, the band rerecorded with Stephen Street, who shaped the jangly, melodic guitar sound that framed Dolores O'Riordan's airy vocals. The album was slow to take off until the singles 'Linger' and 'Dreams' broke through on alternative radio and MTV, sending it into the top 20 in the US and the UK. O'Riordan wrote all the lyrics, with most of the music credited to her and Noel Hogan. A multi-platinum success, it established the band as one of the leading new alternative acts of the early 1990s.
