Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites is the debut EP by Skrillex, released in October 2010 on mau5trap / Big Beat and self-produced by Skrillex (Sonny Moore). The record is credited with introducing the aggressive brostep sound, marked by wobbling bass, abrasive synth modulation, and extreme dynamic contrasts, to a mainstream audience and is arguably the most influential electronic music release of the 2010s. The title track and 'Kill Everybody' became defining anthems of the early EDM boom, demolishing dancefloor barriers between rock and electronic music. The EP earned Skrillex three Grammy Awards in 2012, including Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronica Album, an unprecedented sweep for a debut extended-play release. Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites transformed Skrillex from an obscure post-hardcore vocalist into the most influential figure in electronic dance music.
