Unlike most holiday albums, Something About Christmas Time is mostly original: Rob Thomas wrote or co-wrote seven of the ten tracks, including the Ingrid Michaelson duet "Christmas Time" and the Brad Paisley collaboration "Santa Don't Come Here Anymore." Only three are covers, among them a take on Dolly Parton's "I Believe in Santa Claus" and the standard "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Co-writers include Gregg Wattenberg and Jim Vallance.
Rob Thomas's fifth solo album and his only Christmas record, released October 22, 2021 on Emblem and Atlantic with Gregg Wattenberg producing. Seven of the ten songs are new and carry Thomas's name, which is unusual for a holiday album: only 'That Spirit of Christmas,' Dolly Parton's 'I Believe in Santa Claus' and 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' are covers. Jim Vallance, Chris Trapper and Wattenberg himself are among the co-writers. Ingrid Michaelson sings on 'Christmas Time,' BeBe Winans on 'That Spirit of Christmas,' Brad Paisley on 'Santa Don't Come Here Anymore' and Abby Anderson on the Parton cover.
