Anti is the ninth studio album by Rihanna, released in January 2016 on Roc Nation/Westbury Road Records and produced by Jeff Bhasker, DJ Mustard, No I.D., and others, her most deliberately artistic studio album and the most significant stylistic departure in her career, moving away from the singles-driven electropop and dancehall of her Def Jam era toward a cohesive album-as-statement in the tradition of artistic R&B. Rihanna co-wrote the majority of tracks, her most significant songwriting participation in any studio album, with the creative autonomy she had built through eight previous albums giving her the leverage to prioritize artistic coherence over obvious hit-single construction.
