By the Numbers
Be Here Now keeps the Noel-only authorship intact even at the band's most excessive: he wrote all twelve tracks, words and music, with no band or outside co-writers. Liam sings every lead except 'Magic Pie,' where Noel takes over, so the credits stay almost identical to the first two albums while the music balloons in length and density.
Be Here Now is the third studio album by Oasis, released in August 1997 at the absolute peak of their fame and the fastest-selling album in UK chart history at the time. Recorded amid excess and high expectations, it is a maximalist, often overstuffed record of long songs, layered guitars, and grand ambition. Noel Gallagher wrote every track, words and music, with Liam Gallagher singing lead on all but 'Magic Pie,' where Noel takes the microphone. Singles 'D'You Know What I Mean?' and 'All Around the World' topped the UK chart. Though it sold enormously on release, it was later reappraised as a symbol of Britpop's excess, and the band themselves came to regard it critically.
