With Teeth

With Teeth is the fourth studio album by Nine Inch Nails, released in April 2005 on Nothing/Interscope Records and produced by Reznor and Alan Moulder, recorded in the aftermath of Reznor's recovery from addiction, and the album that returned the band to commercial prominence after the six-year gap following The Fragile. Reznor wrote all material; the album is more concise and rhythmically focused than its predecessor, with 'The Hand That Feeds,' 'All the Love in the World,' and 'Every Day Is Exactly the Same' demonstrating a melodic accessibility that was more direct than the experimental complexity of The Fragile. With Teeth debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 271,000 first-week sales, the largest opening week of any NIN album, and has been certified platinum in the United States; 'The Hand That Feeds' spent five weeks at number one on the Modern Rock chart. The album won the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance and is generally regarded as Reznor's most cleanly focused commercial rock statement outside of The Downward Spiral. With Teeth's commercial and critical success confirmed that Reznor's recovery had not compromised his creative output but had, if anything, sharpened his ability to express emotional complexity within a more accessible commercial format, and its Grammy win and commercial performance demonstrated that NIN could sustain significant mainstream presence across a decade of radical changes in the music industry.
