Ghosts I-IV Songwriting Credits by Nine Inch Nails

Ghosts I-IV is a 2008 instrumental album by Nine Inch Nails, released independently through Trent Reznor's own The Null Corporation after the band's departure from Interscope Records. The 36-track collection is mostly instrumental dark ambient and electronic music spread across four volumes, recorded by Reznor with Atticus Ross on programming and arranging and mixed by Alan Moulder, with additional contributions from Alessandro Cortini, Adrian Belew, and Brian Viglione. The album was issued under a Creative Commons license and sold online in multiple tiers, including a 300 dollar Ultra-Deluxe edition that sold out in under 30 hours and helped generate roughly 1.6 million dollars in sales within the first week. Ghosts I-IV debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200 with about 26,000 first-week copies and topped Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums chart. It earned Grammy nominations for Best Rock Instrumental Performance and Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package, becoming the first Creative Commons-licensed release nominated for a Grammy, and the track "34 Ghosts IV" later supplied the foundation for Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" in 2019.
