Sweat was released the same day as its companion album Suit on September 14, 2004, with Sweat serving as the uptempo, club-oriented disc. Nelly wrote his own raps and brought in a wide cast of producers including The Neptunes, Jazze Pha, his longtime collaborator Jason 'Jay E' Epperson, the Midi Mafia and The Alchemist. Christina Aguilera sings on 'Tilt Ya Head Back,' and guests include Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Mobb Deep, Missy Elliott and the St. Lunatics.

Nelly's third studio album, released September 14, 2004, the same day as Suit, through Universal Records and Fo' Reel Entertainment. The simultaneous release of two distinct studio albums was unprecedented for a major rap artist at the time. Sweat was conceived as the hip-hop-focused half of the double release. "Tilt Ya Head Back" featuring Christina Aguilera and "Na-NaNa-Na" featuring Jazze Pha were the lead singles. The Neptunes returned to produce "Flap Your Wings." The St. Lunatics collective appear on "American Dream" and "Get'cha Get'cha." Mobb Deep and Missy Elliott appear together on "Playa," produced by The Alchemist. Murphy Lee and Stephen Marley collaborate on "River Don't Runnn." Nelly co-wrote all lead tracks.
