By the Numbers
North was Matchbox Twenty's first full-band writing effort, with songs credited collectively to the group after a decade-long gap between studio albums. Rob Thomas still led the writing and vocals, but Kyle Cook, Paul Doucette, and Brian Yale shared credits more broadly than ever before. Matt Serletic returned to produce, reuniting with the band on their first number 1 album on the Billboard 200. The collaborative process reflected the band's shift away from Thomas as near-sole writer toward a true group dynamic.
The fourth studio album by Matchbox Twenty, released on September 4, 2012 through Atlantic Records. The band's first release as a quartet after Adam Gaynor's departure in 2004. Produced by Matt Serletic, it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Rob Thomas wrote most tracks, with Kyle Cook and Paul Doucette receiving solo writing credits on tracks 8 and 7 respectively, and co-writing several others with Thomas. Lead single "She's So Mean" reached number one on the Adult Pop Songs chart.
