Rob Thomas again wrote the bulk of Mad Season largely on his own, extending the solo-songwriter approach that defined the debut. The album leaned into bigger, more polished arrangements, and its lead single 'Bent' became the band's first and only Billboard Hot 100 number one. Matt Serletic returned as sole producer, deepening the radio-friendly sheen of the band's sound. While bandmates contributed musically, the writing credits remained overwhelmingly Thomas's at this point in the band's evolution.

Produced by Matt Serletic, it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and went quintuple platinum in the US.
