Red Pill Blues is the most guest-driven album in Maroon 5's run, pairing Adam Levine with rappers and singers including Kendrick Lamar, Future, SZA, and Cardi B across its singles. Red Pill Blues is Maroon 5's sixth studio album, released November 3, 2017, through 222 and Interscope Records, following PJ Morton's departure from the touring lineup in 2019 (he is absent from most of this album's creation). The album features guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Julia Michaels, SZA, A$AP Rocky, LunchMoney Lewis, Future, and Cardi B (on the remix of 'Girls Like You'), and is the band's most feature-heavy release. Songwriting credits are distributed across a wide pool of professional writers including John Ryan, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, Ammar Malik, Starrah, Jason Evigan, and others, with Adam Levine retaining co-writing credits on all tracks. 'Girls Like You' became one of the band's biggest hits, spending 33 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 top ten, while 'What Lovers Do,' 'Wait,' and 'Don't Wanna Know' (a pre-album single) were also significant chart entries. The title is a reference to the band's late manager Jordan Feldstein, who died in December 2017.
