JORDI is named for the band's late manager Jordan Feldstein, and Adam Levine builds it around guest features and outside production from Louis Bell, Boi-1da, Cirkut, and others. The lead single "Memories" interpolates Pachelbel's Canon in D, so its composition credit reaches back to the 17th-century composer alongside Levine and his co-writers. As on the band's other recent albums, the songwriting is led by Levine with a shifting roster of pop producers rather than the full group.
JORDI is Maroon 5's seventh studio album, released June 11, 2021, through 222 and Interscope Records, and is named after a nickname for the band's late manager Jordan Feldstein, who died in December 2017. The album was executive produced by Jacob 'J Kash' Hindlin and Adam Levine, and features an exceptionally wide range of guest artists including Megan Thee Stallion, blackbear, Stevie Nicks, Bantu, H.E.R., YG, Juice WRLD, and Nipsey Hussle, notably the last two posthumously. The band's lineup at this point is effectively Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, James Valentine, Matt Flynn, and Sam Farrar, with Mickey Madden having departed in 2020. 'Nobody's Love' was released during the COVID-19 pandemic and became a modest hit, while 'Memories', released in 2019 as a pre-album single and subsequently added to the album, had already charted globally. JORDI received generally mixed critical reviews but demonstrated the band's continued commercial relevance and their pattern of enlisting high-profile guest features to drive single activity.
