Data Insight

Juan Luis Londoño Arias holds a writing credit on all sixteen tracks and never writes alone on any of them. Bryan Snaider Lezcano Chaverra and Kevin Mauricio Jiménez Londoño, who produce together as The Rudeboyz, write on seven tracks and produce those same seven, which makes them the record's second author in everything but billing. Every featured guest writes their own part: Carlos Efrén Reyes Rosado on "¿Dónde Estás?", Joel Fido Martínez on "Una Aventura", José Fernando Cosculluela Suárez on "Pretextos", Michael Fernando Sierra Miranda on "Solos" and Austin Agustín Santos on "Tu Cariño". The two Edgar Barrera and Andrés Castro cuts, "Sin Contrato" and "Tengo un Amor", sit apart from that pattern: three writers, two producers, no Rudeboyz, and both land on the Pretty Boy side of the split.

Work on Maluma's second album ran three years, and he cut around 80 songs that never made the final track listing. The concept splits him in two: the Pretty Boy half runs to romantic pop, the Dirty Boy half to reggaeton, and the guest list works the same way, setting Leslie Grace against Cosculluela and Arcángel. The Rudeboyz, the Medellín duo of Kevin ADG and Chan El Genio, produced seven of the sixteen tracks and set the sound of the record. It entered at number one on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, selling 3,000 copies in its first week, and the RIAA has certified it Diamond in the Latin field.

Frequently Asked Questions Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy

Who produced Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy?
The Rudeboyz, the Medellín duo of Kevin ADG and Chan El Genio, produced seven of the sixteen tracks. Edgar Barrera and Andrés Castro took "Sin Contrato" and "Tengo un Amor" together, Marlon Kapry co-produced "El Tiki" and "La Misma Moneda" with The Rudeboyz, and MadMusick, Saga WhiteBlack, Santana The Golden Boy, Sharo Towers, Bruno Linares, DJ Luian and Fido split the rest.
What does the title Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy mean?
Maluma built the record around a split personality. The Pretty Boy side carries the romantic ballads, the Dirty Boy side the reggaeton with seductive lyrics. He described it in an interview as "All human beings have a duality. I have a romantic side and a more malicious one. I wanted to show both versions".
Which singles from Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy charted?
Four singles came off the album. "Borró Cassette" reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, "El Perdedor" number 4 and "Sin Contrato" number 7. "El Tiki" missed that chart but reached number 15 on Latin Rhythm Airplay.
How did Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy do commercially?
It entered at number one on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, selling 3,000 copies in its first week, and stayed on that chart for another 17 weeks. It topped Latin Rhythm Albums as well, and reached number 2 in both Mexico and Spain.
Did Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy win any awards?
It won Urban Album of the Year at the Lo Nuestro Awards and picked up a favorite album nomination at Premios Juventud in 2016.
Who are the guest artists on Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy?
Six acts appear across the album: Farruko on "¿Dónde Estás?", Alexis & Fido on "Una Aventura", Leslie Grace on "Tengo un Amor", Cosculluela on "Pretextos", El Micha on "Solos" and Arcángel on "Tu Cariño".
Data note: Two writers are carried in lyricists without a matching composer entry because no source publishes a legal name for them. JY (El De La J), credited on "Borró Cassette" and "El Perdedor", has no legal name on file at MusicBrainz or in the album credits. Sharo Towers, credited as writer and producer on "¿Dónde Estás?", is listed at MusicBrainz under the spelling Sharo Towers with a legal name attached, and the two spellings were not confirmed as the same person, so no legal name was assigned.
