Untitled is the eighth studio album by Korn, released in July 2007 on Virgin Records, officially untitled due to the band's decision to allow fans to name it, and an album that continued the electronic and production experimentation of See You on the Other Side while benefiting from the return of Brian 'Head' Welch on one track. Davis wrote all lyrics; the album's 11 tracks include 'Evolution,' 'Hypocrites,' and 'Hold On' among the principal tracks, with the production reflecting the industrial electronic influence of Nine Inch Nails and the atmospheric rock of Radiohead in a way that was several degrees removed from the original nu-metal formula. The album debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 with 98,000 first-week sales and has been certified gold in the United States. The Untitled album represents the furthest extent of Korn's electronic experimentation in this period and the most direct evidence that the band was attempting to leave nu-metal behind as a primary category. The Untitled album's commercial decline relative to the early catalog was not matched by a decline in creative ambition, and its industrial and atmospheric influences, while commercially divisive, demonstrated that the band remained capable of genuine sonic exploration even in the absence of the commercial circumstances that had originally driven their creative development.
