By the Numbers
Kesha has a writing credit on all 15 tracks of High Road, always with at least one co-writer. Stephen Wrabel is her most frequent partner here, on nine songs, and her mother Pebe Sebert co-wrote three. Kesha was also the album's sole executive producer and co-produced "My Own Dance."
High Road is the fourth studio album by Kesha, released in January 2020 on Kemosabe / RCA Records and produced by a wide range of collaborators. The album arrived during an ongoing legal fight and was promoted as a party record, a deliberate pivot back toward the irreverent fun of her early work while integrating the emotional openness she had explored on Rainbow. Collaborations with Big Freedia and Sturgill Simpson highlighted Kesha's eclectic artistic range, while tracks like 'My Own Dance' and 'Shadow' continued her journey toward self-acceptance and creative freedom. Though some critics felt it lacked the emotional stakes and thematic cohesion of Rainbow, High Road was received as an enjoyable and genuine expression of who Kesha was beyond the trauma of her legal battles. The album demonstrated her determination to keep making music on her own terms.
