The group performed all vocals; Babyface wrote the majority of the material including the two historic singles; 'Water Runs Dry' was the third top-ten single. II has been certified 12-times platinum in the United States and sold over 20 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling R&B albums of all time and the commercial peak of the group's career; it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 988,000 first-week sales. The album's two consecutive number-one singles made 1994 the most commercially dominant year of any R&B act in the Billboard era, and the record-setting chart runs established Boyz II Men as the most commercially successful adult-contemporary R&B act in history.
