II is one of the most commercially successful R&B albums ever recorded. Produced by Babyface, Dallas Austin, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Brian McKnight, L.A. Reid, and Tony Rich, among others, the album produced five Hot 100 charting singles. "I'll Make Love to You" spent 14 consecutive weeks at #1, breaking the record that "End of the Road" had set two years earlier. As "I'll Make Love to You" dropped to #2, its follow-up "On Bended Knee" debuted at #1 simultaneously, the only time in Hot 100 history an act held the top two positions with consecutive singles at the same moment. The album won Best R&B Album and "I'll Make Love to You" won Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 37th Grammy Awards in 1995. The album received RIAA 12× Platinum certification.
II is the second studio album by Boyz II Men, released in August 1994 on Motown Records and produced by Babyface, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and Keith Crouch. It generated the two best-selling singles in Billboard Hot 100 chart history at the time: 'I'll Make Love to You' (14 weeks at number one) and 'On Bended Knee' (six weeks at number one). The group performed all vocals; Babyface wrote the majority of the material including the two historic singles; 'Water Runs Dry' was the third top-ten single. II has been certified 12-times platinum in the United States and sold over 20 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling R&B albums of all time and the commercial peak of the group's career; it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 988,000 first-week sales. The album's two consecutive number-one singles made 1994 the most commercially dominant year of any R&B act in the Billboard era, and the record-setting chart runs established Boyz II Men as the most commercially successful adult-contemporary R&B act in history. The record-breaking chart dominance of II established Boyz II Men as arguably the most commercially successful R&B act in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, with the cumulative weeks-at-number-one totals of its two singles exceeding those of virtually any R&B artist before or since.
