Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is the most concentrated authorship moment in the catalog: M. Shadows and Zacky Vengeance wrote nearly the entire album as a two-person team, with the closer 'Streets' the only track to add an outside name. With the band self-producing alongside Donnell Cameron, the record is a pure in-house effort from a group still in its teens.
Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is the debut studio album by Avenged Sevenfold, released in July 2001 when most of the band were still teenagers. Rooted in metalcore and skate punk, it pairs heavy breakdowns and screamed vocals with the melodic instincts the band would later expand. M. Shadows and Zacky Vengeance wrote the songs, and the album was self-produced with Donnell Cameron. Lead guitarist Synyster Gates joined just after the original sessions and re-recorded the opening track for the 2002 Hopeless Records reissue. Raw and unpolished next to what followed, it set the foundation for the band's rapid growth.
