City of Evil is the third studio album by Avenged Sevenfold, released in June 2005 and the record that made them a major-label force. Stepping away from screamed vocals toward fully sung melodies, it embraces a maximalist heavy metal and hard rock sound shaped by classic and thrash influences, with long, intricate songs and orchestral flourishes. Produced by Andrew Murdock and the band, it spun off the hit 'Bat Country' and the fan favorite 'Seize the Day.' Certified Platinum in the US, it pushed the band into the mainstream and remains a touchstone of mid-2000s metal.
