Data Insight

Arcángel is the sole credited writer on 11 of the 21 tracks. The exceptions point back at where the record came from: both versions of Ahí Eh are credited to Leo Vazquez and Gocho with no Arcángel line at all, Chica Virtual is shared with DJ Nelson because it arrived from a compilation, and the guest cuts split writing with Don Omar, Tempo and J King. Production runs the other way. Luny Tunes and Tainy hold the front half, but sixteen different production credits are spread across the album, which is why it slides between reggaeton, R&B and straight rap instead of settling on one sound. The mixing is the steadiest thread, with Hyde "El Verdadero Quimico" on most of the record and Thom Russo brought in for the two versions of Por Amar a Ciegas.

Arcángel released El Fenómeno on December 9, 2008, after his planned album La Maravilla leaked and never reached stores. Six tracks carried over from that shelved record, and the set closes with Chica Virtual, the song that had already broken him on a DJ Nelson compilation. Luny Tunes, Tainy and Noriega handle most of the production, with Don Omar, Tempo and J King turning up as guests. It reached 14 on Top Latin Albums and 3 on Latin Rhythm Albums.

Frequently Asked Questions El Fenómeno

Why was El Fenómeno released instead of La Maravilla?
La Maravilla leaked online before it could ship, so it was cancelled. Six of its tracks were folded into El Fenómeno, which came out through Machete on December 9, 2008.
Who produced most of El Fenómeno?
Luny Tunes and Tainy, often working with Noriega, carry the bulk of the album. Mambo Kingz, DJ Nelson, Nely, Diesel, Musicólogo & Menes, Keko Musik, Predikador and DJ Urba with Monserrate take the rest.
Which guests appear on the album?
J King on Agresivo 3, Don Omar on Química Sustancia and Tempo on Mi Primera Canción.
How did El Fenómeno chart?
It reached 14 on Top Latin Albums, 3 on Latin Rhythm Albums and 10 on Top Heatseekers. The single Por Amar a Ciegas peaked at 35 on Hot Latin Songs.
Data note: Producer, performer and mixing credits are corroborated three ways, by the Wikipedia production column, the Discogs liner notes for the Machete CD and Genius; the writer credits come from Genius, which is the only source that publishes them for this album. Legal names are unpublished for several credited writers, so they appear as lyricists only: J King, DJ Urba and Weezy Kingz are named on the stage name alone in every source checked. Gocho is entered as a composer under the name his liner-note credit prints, Jose A. Torres Castro.
