Just Push Play marks the point where Aerosmith's studio sound was steered heavily by outside hands. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry shared production with Marti Frederiksen and Mark Hudson, who also turn up as co-writers across most of the record. Some longtime fans criticized the band's reduced creative footprint, pointing to the slick, layered production and the number of tracks built with the studio team rather than the five members alone. The lead single 'Jaded' was a Tyler/Frederiksen co-write rather than the traditional Tyler/Perry partnership.
Aerosmith's thirteenth studio album, released March 6, 2001. The album leans heavily on the Frederiksen-Hudson songwriting team, who co-write on nearly every track alongside Tyler and Perry. 'Fly Away from Here' is the only track with no Aerosmith member credited as writer, written entirely by Marti Frederiksen and Todd Chapman. 'Jaded,' co-written by Tyler and Frederiksen alone, became the lead single. The album peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200.
