Get a Grip is the album where the hired-songwriter strategy fully defined Aerosmith's sound, with a different professional behind each of the big ballads. Taylor Rhodes co-wrote 'Cryin',' Desmond Child co-wrote 'Crazy,' and Richie Supa co-wrote 'Amazing,' while Mark Hudson co-wrote the Grammy-winning 'Livin' on the Edge' and Jim Vallance contributed to several rockers. Tyler and Perry remained the creative core, but the album's commercial peak rested squarely on these outside collaborators. Bruce Fairbairn produced, with Brendan O'Brien handling the mix, and the result became Aerosmith's best-selling studio album worldwide.
Aerosmith's eleventh studio album, released April 20, 1993. The album opens with a brief 'Intro' before the proper tracks begin. The power-ballad trilogy, 'Cryin',' 'Crazy,' and 'Amazing', generated three of the band's biggest MTV videos, featuring cameos from Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler. Taylor Rhodes co-writes 'Cryin''; Desmond Child co-writes 'Crazy'; Richard Supa co-writes 'Amazing.' Lenny Kravitz earns a co-writing credit on 'Line Up.' Joe Perry writes 'Walk On Down' alone. 'Boogie Man' is an instrumental co-written by Tyler, Perry, and Jim Vallance. The album reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 20 million copies worldwide, the band's best-selling record.
