FanMail is the third studio album by TLC, released in February 1999 on LaFace Records and produced by Dallas Austin, Kevin 'She'kspere' Briggs, Jermaine Dupri, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Babyface, and others, following a four-year gap dominated by the CrazySexyCool commercial aftermath and Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes's arson conviction and jail time, and debuting with 1.5 million copies in its first week, the largest first-week sales for a female group in history at the time. T-Boz and Chilli sang leads; 'No Scrubs,' 'Unpretty,' and 'Dear Lie' were the principal singles. 'No Scrubs' spent four weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and inspired both a direct response from Destiny's Child ('Bills, Bills, Bills') and a formal dispute when it was discovered to closely resemble a same-year song by Sporty Thievz. FanMail has been certified six-times platinum in the United States and reached number one on the Billboard 200; its commercial performance confirmed TLC's sustained dominance in R&B across multiple years and producer contexts.
