Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams is a concept album split into four themed sections, and Jared Leto wrote all of it except Convergence, which he co-wrote with brother Shannon Leto. Leto co-produced the record with Steve Lillywhite, keeping the band's writing almost entirely in-house.
More electronic and experimental than its predecessors, Love Lust Faith + Dreams brought an unlikely collaborator into the fold: Kanye West produced or co-produced select tracks, making this the one 30STM album where Jared Leto shared studio control with another major name. The album also holds a notable milestone: 'Up in the Air' became the first song officially premiered in space, played by astronauts aboard the International Space Station as part of a NASA collaboration with the band. Jared Leto remains sole lyricist and composer across all thirteen tracks. The album debuted at number six on the Billboard 200, the highest chart position of the band's career, and went on to generate the MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video for the cinematic clip accompanying the lead single. Love Lust Faith + Dreams demonstrated that Thirty Seconds to Mars could successfully incorporate electronic production without abandoning the epic rock identity that had built their global following.
