Puzzle People Songwriting Credits by The Temptations

Puzzle People is the eighth studio album by the Temptations, released September 23, 1969 on the Gordy label. It is a full-flight psychedelic soul record produced by Norman Whitfield, who by this point had taken near-total control of the group's studio direction. The album is anchored by 'I Can't Get Next to You,' a number-one hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the R&B chart, and it pushes Whitfield's social-message writing forward on tracks like 'Message from a Black Man' and 'Don't Let the Joneses Get You Down.' The Temptations interpret rather than write here: nearly every original is credited to Whitfield and his lyric partner Barrett Strong, while the group also covers the Beatles' 'Hey Jude,' the Isley Brothers' 'It's Your Thing,' and Bobby Russell's 'Little Green Apples.' Backed by the Funk Brothers, the record reached number five on the Billboard 200 and topped the R&B albums chart.
