By the Numbers
Reba McEntire is an interpreter on Stronger Than the Truth, so the writer credits belong almost entirely to Nashville songwriters rather than to her. She holds a pen on only three of the twelve tracks: 'No U in Oklahoma,' which she co-wrote with former duet partner Ronnie Dunn and Donna McSpadden, and 'In His Mind,' which she co-wrote with longtime collaborators Liz Hengber and Tommy Lee James. Stronger Than the Truth is the thirtieth studio album by Reba McEntire, released April 5, 2019 on Big Machine Records under its Nash Icon banner. After the two-part gospel set Sing It Now, the record marks a deliberate return to hard traditional country, built on fiddle, steel guitar and plainspoken heartbreak songs. Reba co-produced the album with Buddy Cannon, cutting the twelve tracks with a live Nashville session band at The Tracking Room and Blackbird Studios. She wrote only three of the songs herself and worked instead as an interpreter, drawing material from Nashville writers including Brandy Clark, Leslie Satcher, Erin Enderlin and Hillary Lindsey. The album reached No. 4 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards.
