Data Insight

The Endless River is a largely instrumental, ambient album assembled from roughly 20 hours of material recorded during the 1993-94 sessions for The Division Bell, reworked into a tribute to keyboardist Richard Wright, who died in 2008. David Gilmour and Nick Mason built the record around Wright's keyboard parts from those sessions, producing it with Phil Manzanera, Youth, and engineer Andy Jackson. Only the closing track, 'Louder than Words,' carries lead vocals and lyrics, which were written by Polly Samson. The album functions less as a conventional songwriting effort than as a posthumous showcase for Wright's playing within the final Gilmour-led incarnation of Pink Floyd.

"The Endless River" is the 2014 album by Pink Floyd, the band's fifteenth and final studio album, conceived as a tribute to founding keyboardist Richard Wright, who died in 2008. The mostly instrumental record draws on ambient, psychedelia, blues rock, and progressive rock, built largely from 1993 and 1994 Division Bell sessions with additional recording in 2013 and 2014. David Gilmour played guitars and keyboards and sang, Nick Mason played drums, and Wright appears posthumously on Hammond organ, synthesizers, and piano. "Louder than Words," with lyrics by Gilmour's wife Polly Samson, is the album's only track with lead vocals. It reached number 1 on the UK Albums Chart and number 3 on the US Billboard 200, became the most pre-ordered album in Amazon UK history, and sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide in 2014, with Gilmour confirming it as the band's end.
