Data Insight

The Division Bell brought Richard Wright back as a full credited band member for the first time since the Waters era, and the writing reflects a more collaborative Pink Floyd than its predecessor. David Gilmour again led the project and co-produced with Bob Ezrin, but Wright co-wrote 'Cluster One,' 'What Do You Want from Me,' and 'Keep Talking,' while Gilmour's wife Polly Samson co-wrote lyrics across much of the album, including the closing 'High Hopes.' Nick Laird-Clowes and Anthony Moore also contributed to individual tracks. The record's thematic focus on communication and connection grew directly out of this renewed three-way working relationship between Gilmour, Wright, and Mason.

"The Division Bell" is the 1994 album by Pink Floyd, a progressive rock and new age record that centers on communication and the idea that talking can solve many problems. David Gilmour sang and played guitars, bass, and keyboards, Nick Mason played drums, and Richard Wright handled keyboards and sang lead on "Wearing the Inside Out," with Bob Ezrin producing and Guy Pratt and Dick Parry among the collaborators. The album produced the singles "Take It Back" and "High Hopes," the latter paired with "Keep Talking." It reached number 1 on both the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200, where it sold more than 460,000 copies in its first week. Certified triple platinum in both the US and UK, it was the last Pink Floyd studio album of entirely new material and the final recording featuring Richard Wright before his death in 2008.
