Data Insight

Going Back is a covers album: Phil Collins did not write the songs, instead recording faithful versions of 1960s Motown and soul standards. The material is credited to its original writers, including Holland-Dozier-Holland on '(Love Is Like a) Heatwave,' Goffin-King on the title track 'Going Back' and 'Some of Your Lovin',' Stevie Wonder, Sylvia Moy and Henry Cosby on 'Uptight (Everything's Alright),' and Curtis Mayfield on 'Talkin' About My Baby.' Collins said his aim was to recreate the sounds and feelings of the originals, making an old record rather than a new one. It was his first solo album in eight years and the last under his Atlantic Records deal.

Going Back is Phil Collins' eighth and final studio album to date, released September 13, 2010. It is an entirely covers album paying tribute to the Motown and soul music of his youth, featuring 18 tracks spanning recordings by The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, The Supremes, and others. Collins wrote none of the material. It reached #1 in the UK.
