By the Numbers
Peso Pluma writes under his legal name, Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, on seven of the 17 songs, which leaves him second in his own credits. Jesús Roberto Laija García, who records as Tito Double P, has a hand in six, and on Zapata he is the sole writer of a track Peso Pluma performs alone. Jasiel Nuñez wrote three outright, two of them singles he also sang on, so the label boss spent the album singing other writers as often as his own lines. Production runs the other way: Jesús Iván Leal Reyes produced 12 of the 17 tracks, giving a record with 11 guest acts one consistent studio hand.
Peso Pluma released Génesis through his own Double P Records on 22 June 2023, a corridos tumbados set that hands most of its songs to a guest. A deluxe edition a week later pushed it to 17 tracks by adding Tulum with Grupo Frontera alongside the earlier singles PRC and Las Morras. It entered the Billboard 200 at number 3 with 73,000 album-equivalent units, the highest a regional Mexican album had ever placed on that chart, and topped both Top Latin Albums and Regional Mexican Albums. It won Best Música Mexicana Album (including Tejano) at the Grammy Awards in 2024.
