The Beacon Street Collection

The Beacon Street Collection is the second studio album by No Doubt, released in March 1995 on Beacon Street Records, the band's own independent label, funded through their own resources following their contract issues with Interscope, a rawer and more emotionally unpolished release than the debut, sold primarily at concerts and through independent distribution in the Southern California ska scene. Stefani and Eric Stefani wrote most of the material; the album's 10 tracks include 'Open the Gate,' 'Snakes,' and 'Squeal', tracks that demonstrate the emotional urgency and ska-rock energy of the band's live performances without the commercial polish of major-label production. The album sold approximately 100,000 copies primarily through direct-to-fan sales at shows, an unusually strong independent distribution performance that helped fund the completion of Tragic Kingdom and demonstrated the band's commercial viability independent of their label relationship.
