Data Insight

Nicky Jam holds a writing credit on eleven of the fourteen tracks, but he almost never writes alone here. Rafael Pina sits beside him on six songs, and the Mambo Kingz pair of Xavier Semper and Weezy Kingz open the album with him. Wise, credited on Ve y Dile and Desilucionao, is the one outside writer who carries a song without him. Ken-Y writes as well as produces, which shows how far the Los Magníficos team ran this record: they take production on ten of the fourteen tracks and hand out the other four.

Three years after Vida escante, Nicky Jam came back with fourteen tracks cut at the Los Magnificos studio in Caguas. The house team behind R.K.M & Ken-Y produced most of the record under the Los Magníficos name, leaving Mambo Kingz, Monserrate & DJ Urba, Nely and DJ Kalin a track or two each. Gas Pela and Ton Ton Ton went to radio, both of them with R.K.M & Ken-Y on the mic. The album reached 24 on Billboard Top Latin Albums and 2 on Latin Rhythm Albums.

Frequently Asked Questions The Black Carpet

How high did The Black Carpet chart?
It peaked at 24 on Billboard Top Latin Albums and 2 on Latin Rhythm Albums after its release in December 2007.
What were the singles from The Black Carpet?
Ton Ton Ton came first, featuring R.K.M & Ken-Y and produced by Mambo Kingz, and it hit 7 on Billboard Latin Rhythm Airplay. Gas Pela followed, featuring R.K.M and produced by Monserrate & DJ Urba, and reached 45 on Billboard Hot Latin Songs.
Who are Los Magníficos?
The production house built around the duo R.K.M & Ken-Y and its studio in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The album was recorded there and the team is credited as producer on ten of the fourteen tracks.
Why does Nicky Jam not sing on every track?
Cambiar La Rutina is performed by Carlitos Way, who also guests on Trankila. The album credits list him as the performer rather than a featured artist on that closing track.
Data note: Per-track producer credits agree across the Discogs transcription of the 2007 CD, both Wikipedia track tables and Genius, and the engineering and mixing credits come from the Discogs and Spanish Wikipedia readings of the liner notes. Two tracks have no writing credit anywhere: the Interlude and Cambiar La Rutina, whose Genius entries return no writer data and which neither Wikipedia article nor Discogs covers. Songwriting credits on the other twelve tracks rest on Genius alone, since MusicBrainz holds no work or artist relationships for this release and Discogs transcribes no writing credits. The album is left unverified for that reason.
